~Infrastructural Development

“•••Provision and rehabilitation of social amenities and basic infrastructure in needy communities”_ was one of the promises Obong Ukpong-udo made to his people on the pre-election campaign trail. Less than a year after resuming office, he has directly and indirectly made huge strides to ensure the yearnings of his people are met.

Problem areas like dilapidated road infrastructure as well as in schools, are being looked into following his prompting, with modalities for solutions currently being worked out. The entire 16.2 kilometres of the perennially deplorable Uyo Afaha Nkan-Urua Naira-Ikot Nseyen-Ibiaku Ntok Okpo road, with a Span Bridge, has been penned down for construction and rehabilitation.
Similarly, the 10.5 kilometre Nkara Obio-Ediene Atai-Osuk Ediene-Udok Atai, with Spur from Ediene Atai to Afaha Ediene junction, has been appropriated in 2020 budget and construction work is set to commence in a few months.

Two schools – Comprehensive Secondary School, Ndiya, and Lutheran Senior Science Secondary School, Ibakachi, Ukpom, both in Ikono Local Government Areas – are also due for rehabilitation following inspections on the extent of disrepair in these institutions carried out last year.

In his capacity as a member of the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Works and Abandoned Projects, Ukpong-udo contributed to unravelling the contractual situation of the controversial Itu-Odukpani-Calabar highway with a view to finding lasting solutions and alleviating the pains of Nigerians on that route.

Very significantly, his motion on the floor of the house on the need to address an unfortunate incident of landslide in some communities in his constituency was promptly referred to the relevant Committees of the House and, only weeks later, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were on ground at the affected areas.

Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo came to serve because he means well for his people. And so he continues to keep his promises.
