Months after his inauguration as the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo established the ‘Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme.’

This programme was intended to address the infant and maternal health concerns in his constituency – and it continues to do just that. It is absolutely free and provides basic supplies preparatory to childbirth and afterwards, including a welfare stipend, hospital cards and medical consumables. In addition to this antenatal welfare package, the progenitor of the programme, Obong Ukpong-udo also ensures to welcome each newborn baby under this programme with a handsome amount of cash as their first gift.

As at the last count, about 90 women from the constituency have been encouraged to attend the antenatal clinic at the hospital. Of these, there have been 25 successful child deliveries within the nearly 4 months of the programme.

The need for every pregnant women from Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas to take advantage of this initiative does not need to be over-emphasized. They are advised to to take advantage of this initiative by enrolling at the antenatal clinic of the General Hospital at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, to receive professional medical care – for their good and that of their unborn babies.
