George Lincoln Rockwell an American neo-Nazi politician said “It is not the evil itself which is horrifying about our times, it is the way we not only tolerate evil,

but have made a cult of positively worshipping weakness, depravity,
rottenness and evil itself.

With recent attacks on the personality of Dr. Sunday Mbang, a former President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and retired Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria on social media space because of his stands against cultism, one would wonder if this is truly a Christian state where everyone lifts up holy hands every Sunday.

Prelate Mbang had in a recent press interview said that cultists have no place in the state as far as Governance is concerned. Following his meeting with 13 aspirants, he announced that all those seeking the office of the Governor should publicly condemn cultism.

The admonition by the revered cleric seems not to go down well with some persons in the State. In apparent display of rejection of the cleric’s anti cultism statement, these folks have rather chosen to make derogatory comments about the man of God. I

Prelate Mbang who is over 85 years of age stands to gain little of nothing directly in the political activities of the state. In other climes people who are opinion moulders like him are treated as oracles, his opinion on choosing a Godly servant leader should be aplauded rather than antagonized. If our state is named after God , we as a people should be closer to God and also be eager to condemn cultism in its totality rather than condemn the man of God for Speaking against cultism.

Recently, a secondary school boy was expelled for cult related activities which led to destruction of school properties.
Nwaniba axis was hard hit with several cult clashes which made residents living in and around the environs and other road users plying that route to face undesirable consequences.

One can only imagine how worst it would have been if Governor Emmanuel didn’t proscribe cultism related activities. Having this pocket of cult activities under the watch of a man fighting cultism frontally, we can only prepare for the worst when the state is handled by one glossing over cultism.

In the biblical days, people like Prophet Nathan, Samuel, Isaiah, who were oracles of God condemned ills boldly irrespective of those involved.
If King Saul, David, Jeroboam could be confronted for disobeying God then nobody is too big to be confronted by a man of God.

It is very exceptional in our clime that we have such a revered personality Dr Sunday Mbang who speaks without bulging.
For people who may not understand, in the hey days of the military junta when people were afraid to speak up to the authoritiesg for fear of being killed, it was people like Papa Mbang who muscled up the courage to speak to Power.

This earned him the position of President of World Methodist Council, the first African to be so elevated to such an exalted position.

We should be precise about what we want. We are talking about handing over the fate of over 7.5 million people residing in Akwa Ibom for the next four years or more.

A playback of what transpired in this state before 2015 should not be allowed to repeat, with the peace we have enjoyed so far under the current leadership.

Global Pilot Newspaper thinks that those seeking to govern the state in 2023 should rather hand themselves to the very people they seek to govern for public scrutiny. They should unveil their agenda to the people, rather than recruiting their boys to launch veiled attacks on the person of Dr. Mbang and his team of ‘Father’s of Faith’. It makes no sense for supporters of the respective Governorship aspirants to be uncouth in their responses to the cleric’s position on the qualities expected of who should take over from Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2023.

Is it not pre-prosperous that people are bothering themselves more on justifying cultism rather than setting agenda for people they may wish to support?.

This Newspaper wishes to suggest that as people who will bear the glory of the next administration, we should be more concerned about accentuating on the agenda before the next Governor, beyond cultism, kidnapping, criminality, and traits tendencies.

Antecedents should be very much in consideration since the votes of the electorates will count in the election come 2023. During the last election all their machinations, vices, the Warsaw saw War, political ramblings, didn’t work. Beyond cultism, other criminal antecedents should be very much in contention since it is obvious the votes of the people would count.

Akwa Ibom people are more enlightened and they know what they want, but certainly not a cultist. Since the state belongs to God His will alone must prevail.

Tragedy: University of Uyo Student Buried Mum On Friday, Murdered By Roommate On Saturday

Tragedy has hit the City of Uyo again, according to social media post made by one Mr. Daniel Etokidem, a young University of Uyo student identified as Ubong who according to Mr. Etokidem buried the mother on Friday breathed his last today, courtesy of his roommate who stabbed him from the back with a kitchen knife.

“Ubong, what manner of death?

How can you bury your Mum yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday) you’re stabbed to death by your roommate? Less than 24hrs after you struggled to bury your Mum?

Ubong is a simple, easy going, hardworking, humble and God fearing young man. I knew him through my Electrician, Kennedy. If I needed someone to help clean the compound, Ubong will do that efficiently and will be done with it in less than an hour.

This morning, I was inside the town campus of the University of Uyo, Uniuyo, when a friend who was with me pointed to a young lady crying desperately and walking towards the University gate. What could make a young lady cry this way inside the University environment on a Saturday morning? We both pondered.

Less than 10 minutes, my phone rang? It was my electrician friend, Kennedy. “Hello Sir. Sir Ubong is dead oh! Ubong is dead oh just like that”, the call ended.

Confused and a bit disoriented, I called back. “Kennedy which Ubong? Is it your boy who just buried his Mum yesterday”, I asked. Yes, he replied. How? What happened? Was he sick? I asked. No Sir, he replied. He just had a minor argument with his roommate he lived together at Idak Okpo Street and within seconds, the roommate took a knife and stabbed him from the back. He lost a lot of blood and we rushed him to the University Clinic where he died”. His body is at University of Uyo Clinic, town campus.

“Hold on Kennedy, I don’t understand”. I’m inside the University and infact I’m not too far from the Clinic and moments ago, I saw a young girl crying, walking towards the gate”, I asked. “Yes Sir, that’s his Cousin. We just left to call a photographer to take some pictures of Ubong’s corpse before we take him to the mortuary”, he replied.

So where is this his “roommate” who stabbed him to death, I asked. “He is currently being detained at Barracks Road Police Station”, he replied with emotions and agonizing tears overshadowing his voice.

Till this very moment, I’m yet to recover from this news and still can’t understand what anger, provocation, or quarrel will make a roommate pick up and knife and stab to death his fellow roommate who just buried his Mother barely 24 hrs ago.

I pray the Police will help unravel more of what we don’t know but it’s hard to say Rest in Peace Ubong. I still can’t understand what just happened. Ubong, dead? Just like that? Someone who just buried his Mother yesterday? I wish it was a nightmare.”

•••caution party faithful against heating up the polity

Ikono PDP stakeholders under the aegis of Forum of Ward Chairmen have condemned in strong terms, attempts by some politicians within and outside Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency to heat up the polity, create tension and cause unrest in the ahead of the 2023 House of Representatives seat.

This position was made known in a communique issued by the forum titled, “Purported Position Paper in respect of Ikono/Ini House of Representatives seat”.

The Forum, in particular, dissociated itself and condemned in its entirety from the discrete schemes of Barr. Moses Akpan, the State Organising Secretary of the Party, to cause confusion aimed at overheating the polity for his selfish interest while warning woe-mongers to desist from commercializing/dropping the Governor’s name over trivial issues.

As custodians of the party at the grassroots in the federal constituency, the forum noted that they had not been consulted, nor witnessed or heard of any zoning arrangement between the two sister LGAs regarding the House of Representatives seat, stressing that since 1999, they had witnessed aspirants from the two sister Local Government Areas keenly contesting for the ticket within and without the PDP.

They sued for all inclusiveness in decisions concerning the elections, particularly in the build-up to the forthcoming 2023 General elections in order to safeguard and guarantee elections success for the Party. Furthermore, they pledged their unalloyed loyalty to Governor Udom Emmanuel, the leader of the party and their commitment to the actualization of his completion agenda.

In a related development, Barr Goddy Umoh, the Secretary of Ikono Leadership Council as well as the Chapter Youth Leader of the Party, Mr David Idiong, have both disclaimed the inclusion of their names in the said publication by few persons in Ikono.

They have stated categorically that there was no such meeting held by Ikono Leadership Council to discuss the issue of zoning of Ikono/Ini House of Representatives seat.

Barr Umoh stressed that there is no concensus where only 10 out of 20 members of any forum are in agreement, advising all those involved to focus on the completion and succession agenda of the Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, rather than heating up the politics of the area.
