Ever wondered how much football referees earn for all the troubles??
Officials at the top end of the game receive a lot of
negative attention from managers and media, but how
much do they earn for their troubles?
How much do referees earn in the UK?
Depending on the level, referees can earn a little or a lot for
officiating a match. Amateur referees in the UK work on a game-
by-game basis and their match fee is dependant on the local
football associations. Pay is usually between £20 and £40 per
game.
Referees at the semi-professional level – the lower leagues of the
English football pyramid – get both their match fee as well as
expenses. They are paid around £80 per game as well as whatever
mileage they have to travel to and from the match venue.
At the top end, Premier League referees are salaried so they get
paid a regular wage with match fees on top of that. Referees in the
top-flight of England can earn as much as £70,000 per year. They
are paid a basic yearly retainer of between £38,500 and £42,000
based on experience, and then are paid £1,150 per match on top
of that.
Championship referees receive the same basic yearly retainer but
are only paid £600 per game.
How much do referees earn in the rest of the world?
Unlike in England where referees are paid a basic yearly retainer
and then paid per-match on top of that, the officials in the rest of
Europe’s top leagues are just paid on a game-by-game basis.
La Liga games provide the higest match rate, with referees paid
€6,000 a game – which works out at around £5,200. France and
Germany’s top-flight referees get paid just over half that amount.

Akwa Utd thank Governor Udom, Nigerians for support

The Management of Akwa United Football Club have expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their prayers and supports which they say helped a great deal in their qualification to the First Round of the CAF Confederation Cup competition on Wednesday in Banjul.
Speaking after the team’s victory against Hawks FC in Banjul, Chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey expressed gratitude, first to God and to Nigerians for standing by the team despite the first leg lost in Uyo.
Elder Bassey was particularly grateful to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State for his massive support and trust in the team even during the most difficult times.
” His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel is a football lover who believes that hard work and dedication are the keys to success.
” His Excellency’s love and support for the beautiful game has been massive and that support was instrumental in Super Eagles qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
” The Governor’s encouragement has been the motivating factor behind our qualification and we are really grateful to him and the good people of the state for this show of love”.
The Club Boss also extended appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Sir Monday Ebong Uko for always motivating the team to push for success on all fronts.
Also acknowledged was the Nigerian Ambassador to the Gambia His Excellency Oluwasegun Ibidapo-Obe and his staff for coming round to identify with the team and being physically present during the match.
Elder Bassey appreciated all the calls and messages from football administrators, fans and the media community including that of the LMC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko whom he said encouraged the team enroute victory.
“We wish to say a big thank you to football administrators, all our fans, supporters, and the media community who believed and stood by us despite the first leg defeat at home.
” When we received the good news that Plateau United and MFM had qualified, we knew that we had to win and we reacted positively by keeping the Nigerian flag flying in the continent.
“The level of support we received from Nigerians before the game was awesome and we thank the Almighty God who made it possible”.
The Club Chairman heaped praises on the team’s technical crew, the players and staff of the club whom he described as dedicated and determined sets of professionals he has ever worked with in Nigerian Club football environment.
Akwa United’s 3-2 aggregate win over Hawks FC will see them battle Al-Ittihad of Lybia in the First Round of CAF Confederation Cup competition next month.

Akwa United produced a blistering performance in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round match to beat Hawks FC of Banjul 0-2 and qualify to the first round on Wednesday.
Cyril Olisema scored in each half to hand the Promise Keepers a famous victory as they overturn a 1-2 deficit to qualify to the first round on a 3-2 aggregate score.
Akwa United went into the match needing to win by two clear goals after losing the first leg at home 1-2 to the Gambians.
Coach Abdu Maikaba presented the same team that lost in Uyo and got the needed result which helped them to advance to the first round of the competition for the first time in their 20 year history.
The Uyo based side dominated their opponents and enjoyed greater percentage of the ball throughout the match in what was a near flawless performance.
Akwa United had their first real chance to go in front in the 20th minute after Aniekeme Asuquo’s cross was handled by Antou Badjan in the box.

The referee pointed to the spot. Denis Nya stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way but his spot kick hit the post.
In the 31st minute, Victor Mbaoma received a pass in the Hawks box but his goal bound drive was cleared off the goal line by Antou Badjan.
Five minutes later, Cyril Olisema benefitted from a loose ball on the edge of Hawks box and calmly beat Adama Gassama to score and give his team a deserved lead at half time.
Few seconds after the restart, Kelly Kester robbed Omar Sarr of the ball in the midfield and located Olisema who volleyed home from 30 yards to secure his team’s second round passage.
The Promise Keepers will next engage Libyan side Al Ittihad in March.
