A’Ibom APC: The Tobiah and Samballat of our time

Published

on

By Richard Peters

Like Samballat and Tobiah that tried to hinder the building of the wall of Jerusalem, and like Elymas that sought to pervert the proconsul of faith, Akwa Ibom APC has consistently displayed these satanic characters towards the development of Akwa Ibom. Their ultimate aim is to stop the building or Akwa Ibom state, and frustrate the vision of our leaders.

It’s glaringly clear that nothing gratifies APC than to see people in a state of poverty, insecurity, fear, hopelessness and frustration. Hence, every effort by this administration to change the narrative is seen as a capital sin, which must be opposed at all cost.

In its recent press release naively captioned: Udom’s 6th anniversary address: Another tale of Ananias, the disgruntled group of frustrated politicians questioned why Akwa Ibom people should celebrate. They suddenly claimed they are so blind that they couldn’t see all the industries and other footprints of Gov. Udom Emmanuel led administration.

What else could be expected from a party whose leaders are only known for petition writing? We wouldn’t expect anything less from a party that fights itself at every given time. They fight internally and also extend same to destroy the state.

Like Elymas, the APC in Akwa Ibom seeks to pervert the people from the faith of possibilities and massive developmental initiatives of the present administration. But then, we can all attest to the fact that in his 6 years as the state chief executive,
Governor Udom Emmanuel has conquered the air, land and sea, giving Akwa Ibom an exalted position in the map of global economy.

It is no news that Governor Emmanuel is on the saddle of leadership to facilitate and deliver human-centered projects as promised from the inception of his administration.
True to his goal of liberating the state from the shackles of infrastructural lack and deficit, the State Chief executive has today come a long way in flooding Akwa Ibom with life touching projects and thus, opened more opportunities for people of the State on land, sea and sky.

Looking at his developmental strides on land for instance, one would see that Governor Emmanuel has left large imprints on the sands of time which will never be erased. It would be noted that road infrastructure has continued to receive adequate attention by this administration despite the current economic realities; some of which are the just inaugurated 2.1km Oron Highway, 1.8km Murtala Muhammed Way, 0.85km Customs road, 0.4km Market Square Road, 10.9km Awa – Nkana Road with 2.3km Spurs in Onna, all executed with standard side drains in Oron, Onna, Udung Uko, Urueffong-Uruko, Mkpat Enin, Eket, Ibeno, Oruk Anam, Ukanafun, Uruan, Itu, Mbo and other hinterlands.
In Uyo senatorial district, the present administration has changed the status of over 900 main and connecting roads including the construction of the 6.1km Atanoffot road, 9.0km MbiayaUruan-Ita-Ikpa-MbiakongUruan road with 60m Span Bridge in Uruan Local Government Area, 19.317km Annua-Mbak-Ishiet Road,14.5km Uyo/Airport Junction-OkopediOkobo road Phase1, 12.15km EnenNsit-Obotong-Ikot Enwene-Edebom-Oboetuk-Ikot Obok- Mbiakom- Obo Atai- Oboyo IkotIta road in Nsit Ibom, 3.5km Ikot Udom Road with 15m span bridge in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, 2.1km road around the State Secretariat Annex and Believers Academy at Mbiabong, 1.5km road at NsikakEduok- Tropicana outfall drain, 20.0km Uyo-Etinan road, 8.5km IbiakuUruan-Ekritam Road and spur in Itu/Uruan Local Government Area, as well as the Ikot Akpa-Edu- Ikot iko- Ikot Akpan Abia road in Ibesikpo with 30m Span Bridge. Some of these constructions which are ongoing are already reducing the distance between people, markets, services and knowledge, one of which is the almost completed 25.0km Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road.

Strategically located in the heart of Uyo and Ikot Ekpene, the road has its linking ability with the host communities of Uyo, Ibiono Ibom, Ikono, Abak, Essien Udim and Ikot Ekpene as well as neighboring Abia state, Port Harcourt and Calabar.

When fully completed, the road will enhance intertrade and intersocial activities among the three states and boost the physical aesthetics of the state.
Another cardinal road project nearing completion in Uyo senatorial district is the Ikot Oku Ikono flyover. It would be noted that the road was significant for causing accidents in times past due to its narrowness. On completion, the road which has a flyover will eradicate the incessant accidents hitherto experienced and ensure free vehicular movements of goods and humans to and fro Abak-Ikot Abasi-Mkpat Enin- Port Harcourt, Etinan-Nsit Ibom-Nsit Ubium-Eket,Onna, Uyo- Ikot Ekpene-Odukpani-Calabar.

There is also the ongoing construction of 9.5km ring road phase II linking Aka, Oron and Nwaniba roads, by university of Uyo permanent site. Notably, this particular project will dissolve the girdlock often experienced along Oron Road as alternative routes will be provided to diversify traffic through Edet Akpan Avenue to get to Abak road, IBB way, Atiku Abubakar way and Idoro road, without having to get stuck in the Oron Road traffic.

Similarly, farmers and fishermen from IduUruan, Ifiayong and other coastal areas will be able to quickly access the Akpan Andem,Isshiet, Ifa, Nung UdoeandAfaha Markets without fear of delay at the Oron Road jam.

With the attraction of more than 18 functional industries to the mainstream of economic development in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel has positioned himself as a wonder and surprise to many who never believed such a feat could be recorded in such a time with lean economic resources.

Subsequently, the Green Farm, Rice Mill, Kings Flour Mill, Cassava Processing Mill, Plywood factory, Fertilizer blending plant, Syringe factory and others have not only absorbed the teeming unemployed youths of the State but supplied the state with the needed produce necessary for consumption and served as market for the purchase of raw materials for further production thus, enhancing commerce and industry.

The Governor whose octopusal tentacles have equally impacted the Aviation sector has given a facelift to the Victor Attah International Airport through the construction world class MRO, and a taxiway to ease control congestion from the point of arrival, down to the Airport junction.

He also ensured the functionality of the Airport by expanding the State Airline’s fleet to six (6).
Unarguably, Ibom Air, in the words of many passengers has become the toast of the aviation industry in Nigeria, having bridged the gap of high service quality, health insecurity, timeliness and hoarded flight schedules.

With these sterling qualities, Akwa Ibom is sure to move upward from the 7th position it currently occupies among states with high IGR in Nigeria in no distant time, courtesy of the enormous patronage and multiple value chain business opportunity this singular stride avails.

On sea, Governor Emmanuel has committed time and resources to the workability of the Ibom Deep Seaport (IDSP). The IDSP which is a Federal Government project driven by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Akwa Ibom State and the Nigerian Port Authority already has the State Government perfecting its role as the host of the project.

According to the former Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang the road networks at the IDSP are exquisitely designed and constructed to link the entire states in the south south. He explained that at the completion of the Seaport, one of the dualized road takes materials cleared from the Seaport directly into Uyo, state capital.

“The state government is also building a super Highway from Ibeno axis to Uya Oro where one can link up to the East-West road leading to Bayelsa, Port-Harcourt and Warri or drive the opposite way to get to Oron, Eket as well as Calabar”. This, he said is to take care of palpable traffic decongestion around the Seaport.

Mr. Inyang-eyen gave insights on the road inter connectedness when, a delegation from the Presidency consisting the Director General of Infrastructure Concession Regulating Commission (ICRC), an official of the Ministry of Transportation, Finance and the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA),visited the project site on Friday, January 31, 2020.
Accompanied by Inyang-even were the then State Information boss, Sir Charles Udoh, and his Economic Development counterpart, Mr. Akan Okon.

The visiting team who were obviously overwhelmed by the network of roads the Ibom Deep Seaport has, with links to the Onne Port, Mobil Oil Producing as well as the Atlantic Ocean, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the project site.
“I am so delighted to see these things by myself today. Ibom Deep Seaport will be the best seaport in Nigeria and the sub-region with natural depth, and it will also help to decongest Lagos, Port Harcourt, and other seaports. I’m amazed at the level of work recorded so far by the Akwa Ibom State Government”, Mr. Izuwah of ICRC had expressed.
The siting of the IDSP inches away from the Atlantic Ocean makes the coast clear for international exchanges.

It would be recalled that the State Governor had from the onset of his administration stated his commitment to the industrialization of the state, giving priority to the Ibom deep seaport and industrial city projects.
“We will aggressively industrialize this State and continue to attract foreign investors, ensuring that the environment is made ferment for investments. We hope to make Akwa Ibom the industrial hub of Nigeria”, Governor Emmanuel had said.

He added that his administration will raise the bar of performance in all areas and lift Akwa Ibom State to an enviable height, to be the pride of the nation. “Akwa Ibom in my second term will move from a fast industrializing society to a great and rich society, and will witness an unprecedented growth in all spheres of development and capacity enhancement.”

MPM INAUGURATION: WEEP NOT OBA

Published

on

I expected that outing to be dramatic. So it was. After all in 2014, Oron and Ikot Abasi were epic centers of tragicomedies.

I love Obong Bassey Albert’s (OBA) style. Charming in distress. Courageous in ambush. A solo vocalist. A self style activist. Generous. Charismatic…

It is true to Maintain Peace, the State must be guided by Justice, Equity and Fairness. But should OBA be the falconer? Should he rightfully stir this hornet nest?

This tripod of Justice, Equity and Fairness -JEF is then an orphan. OBA has made JEF a pack of cosmetics. When you want to attract confused bachelors apply it. When your desires are met, wash it off.

Did OBA consider the wheel of JEF in 2014 when against known historical and political realities stake his seat as Commissioner of Finance for 7years to grab Governorship which was known to rotate to Eket Senatorial District after Uyo and Ikot Ekpene had taken “turns”?

Many things will work for OBA. Certainly not JEF. He would have had a popular appeal had he mobilized Akwa Ibom to the rescue of Oro Nation in 2014 or Eket at large.

Uyo Federal Constituency is bereaved, because OBA’s artillery crushed them in 2015 and 2019. They only had a shot once at the Senate 1999-2003. While Ibiono Ibom enjoys the pourri for 12years without recalling Justice, Equity or Fairness as it is now.

Since OBA could not,- which he could have – negotiate JUSTICE for Oro Nation; was not FAIR to Eket Senatorial District and had trespassed the compass of EQUITY for UYO Federal Constituency, his call for JEF, is too weak a solo for a desirous orchestra fit for multi- congregation of divergent interest.

This our OBA is in TINUBU kind of political bobby traps. OBA claims to have conceded to Eket Senatorial District before President Goodluck Jonathan. That must have been a personal negotiation, not party, certainly not binding on over 7million people. This is the implications:

•Justice did not appeal to him hence, the only person or authority that could appeal his ego was the President. By giving him GEJ, they robbed him a cliff to the anchor of a tripod – JEF- which he is in dire need now.

• Jonathan is no more the President. Certainly, not in charge of the political mercenaries or political structure of PDP.

•There is a name he omitted yesterday. That person like Jonathan, is no more in PDP. He may have facilitated that meeting with President Jonathan.

• In his claims yesterday, he mentioned Barr. Enoidem, Senator Akon Eyakeyin, Hammer( Enobong Uwa) as preachers of the gospel of Peace which he heeded in 2014. The question is, where these persons guarantors to OBA’s irrevocable succession of Akwa Ibom Hill Top Mansion 2023?

•Since His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel is the beneficiary of the peoples mandate in 2015, and nowhere, was his name mentioned, is he and other emerging stakeholders after that infamous political negotiations liable for a party they neither partook nor shared in the cocktail?

• It thus appears, the ASO ROCK medley was a win- win. OBA and AKPABIO became Senators; UDOM Governor. But has OBA raised questions about the fate of other 24 aspirants who were on 40 days and nights fruitless sojourn in Abuja? I wish he does. Empathy is a strategy.

OBA should wakeup. The game had long begun. Those who could not give him the least significant item as MPM FEZ CAP cannot trust him with a GEM as precious as SEAL OF THE GOVERNOR OF AKWA IBOM STATE.

Now that OBA has publicly committed himself to the philosophy of Maintain Peace Movement MPM, he should be mindful of the Donald Trump style politicking. It might make sense to the Republicans, but detested by Democrats and those indifferent. The consequences is for your guessing.

Like or hate him, he is a master of some political notes. He understands sentiments, grandstanding, phatic emotions, jilt, solidarity, religion as a political vehicle, manipulation etc. Above all he has a voice which he is confident.

However, the task ahead calls for more. The people he is up against are no toddlers. Can’t you see how they played along yesterday? He raised a chorus, they joined. He dived into worship, they were deep with him. He spoke, the listened. Where necessary, they concurred.

When he said I speak the minds of Ini Ememobong, Akan Okon, Henry Archibong, Ememobong Essien, Chairman Ibiono Ibom, was that exaggeration, emotional blackmail or manipulation for political gains?

If no one wears your cap, OBA wear it yourself. It’s fine like dat

But let’s Maintain Peace!
