Niger Delta Warlord Urge President Buhari to Probe Nsima Ekere

Iyare Kakumo, Port Harcourt 19, December 2018

The President of the Advancement for the Welfare of Niger Delta Peoples (AWENDEP) and Niger Delta freedom fighter Comrade Andrew Livers-John has called on president Mohammadu Buhari to order the probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, MD and governorship candidate of APC in Akwa Ibom state, Obong Nsima Ekere.

Speaking to news men in port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital on Wednesday, the freedom fighter stated that with the daily and continuous protest against the financial shortcomings and self aggrandizement of the APC candidate, “president Buhari should not keep quiet and allow another robber” walk the streets of Uyo free without facing the wrath of the war.

Comrade Livers-John noted that the case of the NDDC MD, is an opportunity for the president to show the world that his fight against corruption is not lips service as envisage by majority of Nigerians.

“One of the cardinal points of President Mohammadu Buhari administration is the fight against corruption, it is therefore imperative that the president look at the accusations levelled against the NDDC MD by Niger Delta people and act immediately to show the world that he is not selective in the prosecution of the war against corruption”

“President Buhari should remember the oath he took to protect our laws and his promise to be fair and just to everyone irrespective of party affiliations and order the immediate probe of Mr. Ekere because it would be a great disservice to the people of Akwa Ibom state for a man who is alleged to have siphoned billions of naira meant for the development of Niger Delta region to become a state Governor in his era of anti-corruption. If the president is not interested in fighting corruption, he should be interested in the consequences that an Ekere-governorship will cause to innocent souls in the state” he said.

Recall that various groups in the last two week has called for the probe of Mr. Nsima Ekere who is the MD of NDDC. First was a twin protest at the NDDC Head office in Port Harcourt on December 12, where Ogoni youths and contractors demanded for the sack of Mr. Ekere over what they called massive looting of NDDC to the tune of 5billion, as monitored and reported by Igbere TV.

The Local contractors thereafter petitioned the code of conduct bureau demanding investigation within 7 days.

Also at the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Niger Delta former agitators took to the streets to protest nonpayment of contracts executed by some of them by the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere.

Speaking to newsmen, Okwe Obi, the Abuja correspondent of the Sun newspapers who monitored the protest noted that the Public Relations Officer of Niger Delta Ex-agitators Leadership Forum, Comrade Charles Kurobo, who led the protest, “accused the NDDC boss of sitting on their money,” claiming that efforts to persuade him to pay the contractors yielded no fruit.

Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the matter, Kurobo appealed to the president to sack Mr. Ekere or they would be forced to handle the matter in their own way which he said may not augur well.

As at press time, neither the Head, Corporate Affairs of NDDC Mr. Chijoke Amu- Nnadi, or the Spokesman of Nsima Ekere campaign organization, Mr. Eseme Eyibo could be reached for comments.
