IKONO SOUTH ELDERS COUNCIL INAUGURATES EXECUTIVE MEMBERS.

ENGR. MCPHERSON OKONNAH CALLED FOR PARTNERSHIP WITH *IKONO MIDDLE AND EDIENE ITAKBy J. J. OkonIt was eventful, historic and noteworthy as Ikono Stakeholders gathered and inaugurated the Ikono South Elders Council Executives, held at the Civic Center, Ukpom, Ikono L. G. A., on Thursday, 24th Jan., 2019.Ikono South is one of the three geopolitical zones in Ikono L. G. A., comprises of; ward 5,6,7and 8.The ceremony witnessed a host of dignitaries from Ikono. Few of such dignitaries were Rt. Hon. Iboro Ekanem and Hon. Itoro Columba duly represented, Hon. Otuekong Etokobong – Ikono Vice Chairman, Engr. McPherson Okonnah- a one time chairman of Engineers in AKS, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo – PDP standard bearer Ikono/Ini fed. Constituency, Hon. Asuquo Nnana – PDP standard bearer Ikono State Constituency, Hon. Prince Inem Inyangette – SA to the Governor, Hon. Kelly Okon – SA to the Governor, other members of the political Class in Ikono and Royal fathers; His Royal Highness, Chief Godswill Udoisang -Ndiya Clan head, Eteidung G.M. Uba, Eteidung Peter Etuk and Eteidung Ibanga Udo Akpan.A servant of God and the Ukpom Zonal Bishop of Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Rt Rev. Ini Akpan Bassey, opened the event and then preached united and peaceful coexistence, he said he singled out Ikono amongst other places he has gone to, as a peaceful and more Christian place. HeConfessed that, the Nature of leaders in Ikono are the determinants of the continued tranquil in the region.The cleric pointed out that he has never been embarrassed or humiliated since posted to the area as it is happening elsewhere.He also Pressed on the need for Government to recognise and transform Ikono as the Ntippe Ibibio and proclaimed that no body can erode what was destine for Ikono. He further acclaimed the event organisers for taking the right path in recognizing God First.Engr McPherson, a one time chairman of Association of engineers in Akwaibom who was the Chairman of the occasion described Ikono south as a strategic place for the forth coming Elections, reason being a home with the largest voting population in Ikono and Politics as a game of population.He urged Ikono south Elders to unite, linkup, negotiate, agree and take good decisions for the betterment of the Zone because only these can yield greater development in the Zone, bearing in mind that the two balls are in their Court to play in the forthcoming polls.The chairman also called on the two other zones in Ikono; Ikono middle/Ediene Itak to Partner with Ikono South to come out victorious in next month’s poll, urging then to do so in order to reciprocate the efforts of Ikono South for them to occupy various offices in the past.The inaugural session was officiated by Barr. Eteyen, a very senior Lawyer of Ikono who directed the swearing of oath of allegiance by the appointees into their respective offices.The Appointees were; Elder Mathew Umoh – Chairman, Elder Udeme Umoeka – Vice Chairman, Prince Inem Inyangette – Secretary, Apostle Joe Ekong – Treasurer, Hon Nsikak Onoyom – PRO, Hon. Idongesit Jimmy – Assist. Secretary, Barr. Ekemini Uba – Legal Advicer, Otuekong Anselm Frank – Fin. Secretary, Deac./Mrs Margaret E. Ekanem – Woman leader, Elder Ini Udom Ekpenyong – Provost, Elder Joseph Okon – Welfare Officer, Prince William Akpan – Organ. Secretary and Hon Victor M. Asako – Auditor.The chairman, Ikono south Elders Council , Elder Mathew Umoh in his acceptance speech, promised to work effectively with all members of his cabinet to Foster significant growth and development in the region. Amongst other members who were sworn in, Prince Inem Inyangette, SA to the Governor and thanked Ikono south Elders council Secretary, thanked God for the huge success of the event and reaffirmed their eagerness and steadfastness to Discharge their duties effectively for the advancement of Ikono south.In addition, numerous dignitaries present at the event made auspicious and bewailing speeches.Hon. Kelly Okon, SA to the Governor, press ahead and charged the youth, explaining the need they should to IKONO SOUTH YOUTH FORUM.Mr Obot Okoko, a village chairman of Ibiaku Ikot Edet, lemented about the extent of negligence and nonrecognition of clan Heads and other royal fathers from Ikono south Zone by the Government and high profiled government functionaries.According to the young, vibrant and outspoken critic. He drew his viewpoint and conclusion from examining and comparing Ikono to other areas where Royal Fathers are held at high esteem at the instant of assisting them with vehicles etc, either directly from the Government or government functionaries. He urged Ikono south youths, women and Elders to stand firm with the two popular candidates from Ikono South; Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Hon. Asuquo Nnana.High point of the event was the Empowerment of Ikono South Elders council where colossal contributions where made by Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, Hon. Asuquo Nnana, Mr Obot Okoko and many others.
