_Volunteering your time, money or energy to help others doesn’t just make the world better-it also makes you better._

Studies indicates that the very order of giving back to the community boosts ones happiness, health and sense of well-being. Little wonder the likes of Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo constantly appears refreshed and happy.

It was a mixed feeling of tears and joy at the Shelter Afrique residence of the Health & Safety Consultant cum House of Representatives hopeful for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency – Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo AKA Macaire as youths of Ikot Ekpene extraction stormed the premises in what they called “Appreciation/ Solidarity Visit”.

Just like the story of the ten leprous men that Jesus healed in Luke 17:15 and only one returned to thank him, these youths distinguished themselves amongst many.

The delegation was led by Akparawa Mkponke Okon Otu (Okonko). In his team were former and present ward councilors in Ikot Ekpene legislative assembly, executives of Akwa Ibom Motorcycle Transport Association (AKMOTA) Ikot Ekpene Chapter and other Trade Union and beneficiaries of the humanitarian gesticulations of Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo.

According to the Principal spokesperson Hon. Samuel Okorie Udo who is the immediate past councilor ward 4 (chief whip) of the 5th Legislative Assembly in Ikot Ekpene Local Government, the visit was to offer prayers to their benefactor who turned them from boys to men and to also empower him in their own ability for the race ahead. He accentuated that it was not an endorsement visit but that of solidarity and appreciation.

Also speaking was the Majority Leader of the 6th Legislative Assembly Hon Ubong Valentine who led the sitting Councilor’s contingent. In his words *“Even as we are not delegates for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, our spirit goes with you, hence we came to pray for you today. Our colleagues in Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas are with you in this race, we can attest to that. “Through your generosity, we became great men and pillars in our families and communities. We have come to honor you and to express our solidarity to your well deserve ambition”.

Highpoint of this visit was a presentation of an operation vehicle, an undisclosed lump sum, several goats, drinks and other materials to aid MkpoikanaAbasi 2019 campaign organization.

Tears were visibly seen in the eyes of Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo. That scene can best be captioned as “Macaire wept”

Shortly after these presentations were testimonies of the various benevolent of Macaire by beneficiaries of cars, houses, motorcycles, financial empowerment, etc. who were privilege to be in the delegation. They took turns to recount their encounter with Macaire and how he changed their stories. One major fact was established: none of these recipients was known by their benefactor. Most of the incidents recounted were not even familiar to him.

Responding to the August visitors, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo stressed that “altruism is contagious”. In his words ”when one person performs a good deed, it causes a chain reaction of other altruistic acts, please replicate whatever gestures I showered on you to the least of your brethren in your own possible way”. While shedding tears of joy for the gifts, he said that no group or individual has ever reciprocated gestures to him in that manner and appreciated them for remembering him at a time he needed such encouragement and support the most.

In Macaire’s delegation were the Organizing Secretary of PDP Ikono Chapter- Hon. Victor Akang, a former Leader of Ikono Legislative council – Hon Emem Nwup and host of other stakeholders from Ikono extraction.
