•••Launches “Macaire Mother and Child Care Program”
In support of the strides towards a healthier citizenry through the promotion of healthcare by the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led government of Akwa Ibom State, the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency Representative at the National Assembly, Hon. (Obong) Emmanuel Ukpong-udo has instituted a health-promotion initiative, the ‘Macaire Mother and Child Care Program.’
The program, which is also in furtherance of his pre-election promise to his constituents, is geared towards reducing maternal and infant mortality, through safer childbirth, in the constituency and its environs. Beyond this, the program also aims to ensure that every mother and child remains in good health before, during and after delivery.
The program, which commences this month (November 2019), will hold exclusively at the General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo in Ikono Local Government Area. It will amongst other benefits, encourage pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics as well as encourage pregnant women to undergo childbirth/delivery in hospitals. Beneficiaries of the program will be provided basic supplies preparatory to childbirth and afterwards, including hospital cards and medical consumables.
The ‘Macaire Mother and Child Care Program’ is free and open to all pregnant women from Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas. The Member representing the Constituency, Hon. (Obong) Emmanuel Ukpong-udo has admonished pregnant women of Ikono and Ini origin to take advantage of this facility by visiting the antenatal department of the Ikono General Hospital where they will be attended to and further briefed on how to fully leverage this program.
It will be remembered that during his pre-election campaigns earlier in the year, Obong Ukpong-udo had promised that if elected into office, he would ensure that his people would enjoy the basics of medical care as he would “support improved healthcare delivery across the constituency.” With the new state-of-the-art General Hospital recently rejuvenated by Governor Udom Emmanuel, Obong Ukpong-udo has, through this noble program, keyed-in to the Governor’s vision of health for all, by ensuring that the people of the area maximise this secondary health facility in the area.
