In furtherance of his resolve to ensure passability of roads in Ikono LGA, the Executive Chairman of Ikono LGC, Hon. Itoro Columba has undertaken road grading in Ukpom Ward 5 and Nkwot Ward 6. The first phase of the grading exercise was done across several wards in the local government last year.
In Ukpom Ward 5, grading was done on Ukpom Anwana, Ukpom Ikot Umoh, Ukpom Ikot Ekwere road, Ukpom Ikot Abia through Ukpom Usung Ubom to Mbiafun in ward 1. This provides a link between the two wards and also offers a common access to the popular Edet Ukpom Market.
Hon. Akamba Ukpong, Councillor of Ukpom Ward 5 revealed that the roads graded by the Chairman were economic roads which will bring development to the area. He commended the Chairman for fulfilling his campaign promises and running an inclusive government void of sentiments. He described Hon. Columba’s stellar performance as a reflection of Governor Udom’s performance at the helm of affairs at the State level.
Natives of Ukpom who spoke to the Chairman’s Media team on tour of the area recalled how deplorable the roads were prior to the Chairman’s intervention. They lauded him for being pragmatic and result-oriented and prayed God to imbue him with more grace to do more for the people.
Another road given a facelift was the Ikot Ankwo – Ikot Idomo – Ikot Anya road. Councillor of Ward 6, Hon. Anwanga-Abasi Udofia described the Council Helmsman, Hon. Columba as a promise keeper who deserves the support of Nkwot for the smiles he has put on the faces of his constituents.
Special Assistant to the Chairman on Intergovernmental relations, Mr. John Asanga, a native of Nkwot Ward 6 expressed the heartfelt appreciation of Nkwot people to the Chairman for his forthrightness, unbridled passion and sensitivity to the plight of the people as no grader had entered the area in 20 years.
