It was celebration and merriment galore as The Executive Chairman of Ikono LGA, Hon. Itoro Columba today hosted Ikono people to a thanksgiving luncheon in his Itak home to commemorate the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel and other PDP Candidates at the just concluded 2019 general elections. The event chaired by the PDP State legal adviser, Barr Goddy Umoh had in attendance the crème de la crème of the political class, party stakeholders, faithful and indigenes of Ikono LGA.
A session of heart rending praise and worship preceded a brief exhortation delivered by Evang. Emmanuel Inyang titled “Giving glory to whom it is due”. The preacher admonished the people to reverence God at all times and accord him the glory and honour he truly deserves, stressing that God owns power and delegates it to anyone he pleases hence no one should usurp it. Drawing his text from Psalm 107: 1-8, Numbers 20:10-14, he made reference to Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible who equated himself to God and faced severe consequences. Placing God first he said was a cardinal requirement for success in life. He described the Governor’s campaign slogan “Only God” as a divine mantra that positively changed the political narrative in the State resulting in a resounding victory for the Governor.
Delivering his address, Barr. Goddy Umoh thanked the Chairman of Council for the wonderful gesture of putting together an event to thank God and celebrate the people. He described the Governor as one man who firmly maintained his faith and confidence in God without wavering and never showed any signs of fear all through the electioneering process. He commended the electorate in Ikono for showing their might at the polls and for overwhelmingly delivering the PDP while warning political actors against the dangers of arrogating God’s glory to themselves.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikono LGA, Hon. Itoro Columba lauded Ikono people for their support for him, the PDP and his Boss, the Governor. He disclosed that the essence of the event was to thank God for the success at the polls, appreciate the people for their steadfastness and celebrate the PDP’s hard earned victory against the backdrop of the scary pictures painted by the opposition in the minds of the electorate prior to the elections.
Everything that surrounded the campaign slogan of the Governor, he said was God-centric, making it a movement and a revolution that took the State by storm. He lauded the people for choosing the will of God for the State as entrenched in the PDP. Furthermore, he assured the people that Ikono would soon get a position in the State Executive council and other juicy appointments, particularly on the basis of their performance at the just concluded polls.
“Let all of us unite and be on the same page so we can fight and get all we want. That’s my earnest desire for my people”, he said.
The Chairman also seized the opportunity to present the scorecard of his faithful stewardship to his people stressing that more were in the offing.
Also speaking, the political leader of Ikono LGA, Sir S.U Akpan prayed God to bless the Chairman for deeming it fit to celebrate with all those who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the PDP at the polls. He lamented the years of marginalisation of Ikono under the previous administration and thanked Governor Udom for delivering dividends of good governance to the area and wiping away the shame once faced by the people. He admonished Ikono people to live in love and unity, be fair to each other and learn lessons from the outcome of the just concluded elections, stressing that anyone who believes in God never sees shame.
The Chapter Chairman, Barr. Moses Akpan sued for continuous support for the victorious candidates of the PDP in the LGA. He thanked the Governor for being a leader who has taken the State back to God and urged Ikono people to remain faithful to the PDP as it was a family large enough to accommodate everyone.
