The Councilor representing Midim Ward 2 in Abak Legislative Council, Hon. Ifiok umoren has emerged the Best Performing Councilor in Abak Local Government Area in 2018.
Hon. Ifiok umoren emerged ahead of two other councilors, Hon. Sunday Sunday (Abak Urban Ward 3) Hon prince uduak etokudo (midim ward 1) who were nominated at opinion poll conducted by a community-based newspaper, Voice of Abak (VOA). Though the three nominated Councilors performed well in the year under review, Hon.ifiok umoren was the only among them to have sponsored a bill and move motions on the floor of the House that has direct impact on the lives of the people of Abak. Notable among the bills and motions sponsored by Hon.ifiok umoren was the implementation of compulsory monthly sanitation and stopped of one way driving in abak local govt.
Speaking before presenting the Award at a colourful ceremony over the weekend, the Chairman Board of Trustee, Voice of Abak (VOA) Newspaper, Mr. Fred Umoren said the main reason for instituting the award was to encourage and promote grassroot development.
Mr. Umoren lamented the moribund state of Palm-Mill Industry and Akwa Ibom Water Company Sub-Station at Abiaokpo, Otoro and called government to look at ways of reactivating the facilities so as to create employment opportunities to the many unemployed indigenes of the area.
The BOT Chairman congratulated Hon. Ifiok umoren on his emergence and called on him to continue to do more for the people of his ward in particular and Abak Local Government in general.
Mr. Umoren called on other Councilors to emulate Hon.ifiok umoren by giving their constituents effective and purposeful representation.
Also speaking, the immediate past Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Elder Uwem Ekoh commended the Management of Voice of Abak Newspaper for their initiative, describing it as the first Newspaper in the state to have instituted such award.
Elder Ekoh made a case for such award to be instituted in other local government areas of the state to encourage grassroot development.
Others who spoke at the occasion including the Councilor representing Abak Urban Ward 4, Hon. Nsibiet Akpakpan, PDP Chairman Midim Ward 1 and two Mr. Moses Akamambet and awana akak ,Family Head, Chief Oboh among others and supporters extolled the qualities of Hon.ifiok umoren, describing the award as meritorious and well-deserved.
Responding after receiving the award, Hon. Ifiok Umoren expressed gratitude to God for what he has done in his life and for giving him the grace, wisdom and enablement to do the little he has done.
Hon. Umoren who’s the deputy chief whip Abak Legislative Council explained that the little he has achieved would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of the people of his ward.
The Councilor promised to continue to do his best to attract dividends of democracy to his people.
