Governor Emmanuel Inaugurates Task Force  For Reactivation of Akwa Palm Industry

By ANIETIE ESUIn line with his administration’s commitment to industrialising the State, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel on Monday inaugurated a Task Force for the reactivation of Akwa Palm Industry Limited.The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, who performed the inauguration on behalf of the State Governor at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government, said the inauguration of the committee was a demonstration of the “commitment and seriousness” of Governor Emmanuel’s administration to revamp the economy of the State.Governor Emmanuel charged members of the Task Force to take their works seriously as his Administration was “deeply committed to the industrialisation of the State, diversification of the economy of the State, creation of jobs for young people in order to take them off the streets and make them have a sense of purpose.”He enjoined them to be transparent, fair and above all, consult widely and take into account the interest of the host communities and villages in the course of discharging their responsibilities.The governor called on the people of the host communities to be law-abiding and protect the facility against vandalism.The term of reference of the Task Force, according to the State Chief Executive is engaging youths from the host villages and communities of Esit Eket, Mbo and Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Areas, with a view to creating a market value for the industry, among others.Responding, the Chairman of the Task Force, Prof.Edet Udoh noted that the reactivation of the Akwa Palm will increase the value of the faciltlty for potential investors who have indicated interest in the take over and management of the Palm Produce Industry.Prof.Udoh, who is also the Chairman, State Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Security, solicited the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKIKORP), and the host communities to enable the committee achieved its assigned responsibilities.He expressed appreciation to the Governor for finding them worthy to serve the state in that capacity and pledged to work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in them.The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr Uduak Udo-Inyang pledged the support and cooperation of his Ministry to enable the Force achieved its task.The inauguration exercise was witnessed by the Member Representing Esit Eket /Ibeno State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Dr Usoro AkpanUsoh, Political Leader of Esit Eket and Deputy Director-General, Divine Mandate Campaign Organisation, Elder Ben Udobia and Chairman, Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Iniobong Robson and some management staff in the SSG’s Office, among others. The Nine Member Task Force is chaired by Prof. Edet Udoh, while Senator Etang Umoyo serves as an Adviser.Members of the Task Force include Mr Friday Ekong Assan, Mr Jerry Edoho, Mr Etim Ekpo Okon, and Mr Etim Effiong Bassey.Also in the Force are Mr Effiong Edward Mkpabia, Mr Godwin Edet and Mr Savier Ekpa.
