The Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Governorship election in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has assured the people of Udung Uko of more developmental projects in his second term.
Governor Emmanuel gave the assurance on Friday during his gubernatorial rally in Udung Uko which took place at the St. Michaels’ Primary School, Eyo Nsek.
While promising to complete already commenced projects in the area, the Governor assured the people of his commitment towards opening up the area, and linking them with neighbouring Local Government Areas.
“We will complete everything we stared in Udung Uko and start new ones. I am here today to reaffirm my commitment to open up Udung Uko. Your Paramour Ruler has told me about your primary health center and several other things. Today, we promise that by the time we will be celebrating our fourth year anniversary, we will be commissioning more projects in Udung Uko”, he said.
The gubernatorial candidate lauded Udung Uko people for supporting his Industrialization drive and by ensuring there is sustainable peace in the area to facilitate speedy completion of the gas processing plant in the area.
He pledged that youths of the area will be given preference in terms of employment when the company is fully operational.
“When we started the gas exploration, I assure the people that when the company fully commences, preference will be given to youths of Udung Uko. I also plead with youths of the area to give the company the same level of cooperation as always”, he added.
Earlier, Senatorial Candidate for Akwa Ibom South (Eket), Dr Akon Eyakenyi, praised the Governor for transforming the State to new heights in the area of Infrastructural development; health; education and empowerment of Oro sons and daughters. She said that the entire Oro Nation have unanimously resolved to vote for Governor Emmanuel and all candidates of the PDP at the polls.
At the rally, no fewer than 450 persons defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, citing unfair treatment and political marginalization as core reasons for dumping their former party for the PDP.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Engr. Emmanuel Sam, said they earlier defected to the APC for the course of Oro Nation, but were schemed out of the race in consecutive attempts.
“Today, we have taken a golden step to move from the APC to PDP. Before 2015 all of us were in the PDP, but we had reasons to go to the APC, hoping we will be able to produce a Governor from Oro Nation. When we moved, we thought APC will give us our demand. We tried in 2015 they disappointed us.
“In 2019, they deceived us gain, scheming out all Oro Sons. We have resolved that we cannot be deceived yet again by the same people that deceived us in 2015. We have decided that instead of voting for the APC, we have decided to root for Governor Udom and other PDP candidates”, he narrated.
He further thanked the Governor for constructing the road which links the Council Secretariat to various communities in the locality, stressing that the road was neglected by successive Governments, irrespective of its huge economic potential.
