Essien Udim Monarchs, Others Rebuke Akpabio, Adopt Gov Emmanuel

It was a show of indebt anger for the people of Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom, as the entire political structure in one voice vehemently rejected the plot of Senator Godswill Akpabio to unseat Governor Udom Emmanuel, maintaining that his position holds no water.

They made the resolution on Monday during the PDP gubernatorial campaign at the Council Secretariat, Afaha Ikot Ebak.

At the palace of Edidem Cosmos Akpan, the only surviving Paramount Ruler, who agitated for the creation of Akwa Ibom State, and one who advocated for the Zoning process, where governance evenly rotate the three senatorial districts, maintained that he would not compromise his initial words and plans for the state.

Speaking through the Itai Afe Annang, Okuku Effiong Eside, the paramount ruler commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his effort in bringing peace and unity in state, stating that he was pleased to see that the course he fought for was achieved by the governor.

He urged the Governor not to be discouraged at the recent occurrences as they were solidly behind him.

“It was a fight we all fought for, the entire Annang and myself, to Akwa Ibom where everybody worked together side by side in peace and unity. Uyo went for two terms, our son did, I see no reason why you shouldn’t complete your tenure”.

The Essien Udim monarch further commended the industrialization drive actualized by Governor Emmanuel, saying that his efforts has landed Akwa Ibom as the second best investment destination in Nigeria after Lagos.

He said further that his administration has also been the first to show utmost respect to the traditional leaders of the state.

Earlier at the palace of the Itai Afe Annang, the Governor was again assured in strong terms of their support in his second term bid, reasoning that the peace enjoyed in the community and the state at large was the greatest of all achievements.

Okuku Effiong Eside, Itai Afe Annang, in his remarks urged Governor Udom Emmanuel not to be deterred at the defection of one man and the Warsaw threats saying, “a thunder cannot bring down all the trees in the forest. The Warsaw chants hold no water”.

He maintained that the Essien Udim political leaders were all intact to send him back to the hilltop mansion.

To crown it all was the mammoth crowd at the Essien Udim Council Secretariat one that screamed acceptability of the peace and dividend of democracy witnessed under the current administration.

The political leader of the area, Chief Michael Afangideh, said Akpabio has no satisfiable reasons to attack Udom Emmanuel for restoring sanity and development in the state if he meant well for his people, and assured the Governor of the support of Essien Udim elders for his second term in office.

He maintained that Godswill Akpabio brought Governor Emmanuel who came and cleansed the state of cultism, kidnappings, assassination and other anti-societal vices, restoring peace and order in the state.

Speaker after Speakers representing different groups, in their remarks, declared their resolve to support the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel thanked the people for the show of love and assured them of better days in his second term.

“I am not here to create sentiments, because vengeance is for God alone, I am here to finish the things we started and couldn’t complete due to some reasons you all are aware of. This local government had a leader speaking for them and I followed their advice but let bygones be bygones.

“We will fast tract the work pace at the road construction projects we started”.

Governor Emmanuel announced that the state government has ordered machines from Malaysia for the establishment of palm kernel and crude oil crushing plant in Essien Udim, adding that the Nto Ubiam road which leads to Catholic Bishop Umoh’s house has been awarded for construction.

The Governor enjoined the people to beware of someone who, after stabbing, turns around and cries for help.

“This journey is like a relay. It rotates until it gets to the Promised Land. Beware of someone who, after handing the mantle, turns to be a hindrance to you.”
